Amanda Thurston has worked as a solicitor for over 20 years and spent much of that period living and working in Hertfordshire. She specialised in family law whilst working for local regional firm Curwens and was a partner there until 2020. Amanda has always carried out pro bono work throughout her career – assisting at Toynbee Hall Legal Advice Centre in London and Stevenage Women’s Advice Centre. In 2019 she assisted the University of Hertfordshire’s Law School establish their pro bono Law Centre. As a result of this, she ended up working for the Law School as a visiting lecturer and making a career move into academia. She is now qualified as a Fellow of Higher Education and is Director of the Law Clinic. The University has always had a good partnership with Future Living Hertford and these ties were strengthened with the Law Clinic being able to offer free advice to FLH clients. As a result of this working relationship Amanda has become more aware of the impressive work Sandra and her team accomplish and was delighted to accept the offer of becoming one of the charity’s Trustees in January 2022.
