Celebrating Strong Women on International Women’s Day

IWD 2025

March 8th marks International Women’s Day (IWD), a time to celebrate the resilience, achievements, and power of women worldwide. At Future Living Hertford, we see first-hand the strength of women. Especially survivors of domestic abuse—who overcome unimaginable challenges and rebuild their lives with courage and determination.

Women who have experienced domestic abuse often face years of control, fear, and trauma, yet their strength is undeniable. Survivors are not just victims of their past; they are women who reclaim their future.

💜 Strength is leaving an abusive situation, even when it feels impossible.
💜 Strength is rebuilding confidence after years of being told you’re not enough.
💜 Strength is supporting other women and creating safe spaces for healing.

On International Women’s Day we celebrate the resilience of these women. Those who have walked through darkness and still find ways to shine.  Their stories inspire us all and their journeys prove that healing is possible.

#InspirationalWomen – Share Your Inspirational Women

This year’s Future Living IWD theme, #InspirationalWomen, is a reminder that all women deserve to be valued, supported, and empowered. We want to hear from you!

Jess Phillips, MP

I’ll start.  My Inspirational Woman is Jess Phillips, MP.  Jess is a tireless campaigner for domestic abuse survivors in the UK.  As the manager of a women’s refuge, she saw firsthand the devastating impact of domestic abuse and has dedicated her career to ensuring victim’s voices are heard.

Each year on International Women’s Day, Jess stands in Parliament and reads out the names of all the women in the UK who have been killed by men in the past year. This powerful act is a stark reminder of the work that still needs to be done to combat not just domestic abuse, but all male violence against women and girls.  She has fought for stronger protections, better funding for refuges and legal changes to support for survivors and heled to bring issues like coercive control and economic abuse into the national conversation.

Jess Phillips reminds me that real change can happen when women refuse to stay silent.

Support Women by Donating to Future Living Hertford

While IWD is a day of celebration, it’s also a time to recognise that many women still face barriers—including domestic abuse, trauma, and lack of support. Future Living Hertford provides specialist therapy, empowerment programmes, and a safe space for survivors to heal and move forward and your funding can help women to rebuild their confidence, find safety and create new beginnings.
